- Artist Talk: July 14 (2:00 PM – 4:00 PM)
About the program:
Roots & Worlds is a collaborative photography program between Matca (Vietnam) and IC Visual Lab (UK), supported by the British Council. The program explored the theme of “ecological encounter” through a three-month intensive training course.
The artists:
- Nguyen Huu Thien Truong: Explores the connection between people, gardens, and rivers under the influence of climate change through the lens of longan farming in Vinh Long.
- Ha Huyen Trang: Uses bananas as a symbol of belonging and the complexities of family separation between Vietnam and Australia.
- Nguyen Vo Bao Han: Examines personal feelings of motherly love and the sea legends of Nha Trang Bay.
- Nguyen Le Tuan Kiet: Captures the lives of residents in Quy Nhon alongside the impact of modern advertising on their relationship with the sea.
- Dan Tran: Documents flower offerings as a form of expressing love in Ho Chi Minh City and Singapore.
- Tran Quynh Nhi: Explores internal conflicts between personal freedom and family ties through portraits and phone messages, set against the backdrop of an orchid garden.
Exhibition Significance:
Roots & Worlds aims to promote photography as a medium for personal stories and social awareness. This exhibition builds upon the program’s opening event at Matca Photography Space in Hanoi (November 2023) and will culminate in a published catalog.
